The FABCYCLE Documentary: Unwanted Roll

The FABCYCLE Documentary: Unwanted Roll

A few months ago, we had a group of students coming for a field trip to our Textile Waste ReUSE Centre. The students came from a special collaborative program with SFU and Emily Carr called Business of Design (BoD) instructed by our friends Emily Smith and Stephanie Ostler.

We had a fascinating conversation as we always do with students, about textile waste, sustainability models and what it means to strive for waste as a resource and trying to get one step closer to Circular Economy.

But after the field trip we were approached by Dino, that was on the field trip and our story piqued his interest.

Short Documentary

Dino is a talented videographer with a passion for telling stories of impact and when he asked us to share our mission to save textiles from the landfill on camera, how could we say no?

In this short documentary, Dino was able to capture the essence of our ReUSE Centre, not only in image but also in spirit.

You'll see our lively Re-USE Centre filled (almost) to the brim with fabrics, notions, scraps and other all-around weird and wonderful things.

As the camera follows Irina McKenzie (the founder of FABCYCLE) through the ReUSE Centre, the story of the textile waste is revealed.

Watch the short documentary on the video above or go directly to Dino's Youtube Channel (don't forget to comment on his video on Youtube to give him kudos for his wonderful work!

Other films

The short film is part of a series of sustainable short films made by Dino Dang. Check out his other film in the series called The Act of Change made in collaboration with Jasmine Noble. You can also find Dino's other short films on his Youtube channel. A big thank you to him for working with us to share our vision through film!

I was so happy to come across your business. I have sewn clothes for over 60 years and I hate wasted fabric. If I can get my stash sewn up I will do some shopping at you site. Until then I will pass on your site to others.
